Pakistani FM Ishaq Dar to Strengthen Ties in China Visit

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar will embark on a three-day visit to the Chinese mainland starting May 19, following an invitation from Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The trip underscores ongoing efforts to deepen strategic cooperation between the two long-standing allies.

The visit comes amid growing collaboration under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship project of Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative. Analysts anticipate discussions on infrastructure development, energy security, and regional stability, particularly in light of evolving geopolitical dynamics in South Asia.

China and Pakistan have maintained close diplomatic and economic ties for decades, with bilateral trade reaching $20 billion in 2023. Dar’s agenda is expected to address enhanced market access for Pakistani agricultural exports and expanded Chinese investment in technology and renewable energy sectors.

This high-level exchange follows recent dialogues between CPC and Pakistani leadership, reflecting shared commitments to multilateralism and development-oriented partnerships. Observers will monitor potential agreements on cross-border connectivity projects and counterterrorism coordination.
