China Pledges Emergency Aid to Combat Ebola Outbreak in Africa

In a strong demonstration of international solidarity, China has announced its readiness to actively assist African nations grappling with the latest Ebola outbreak, with a particular focus on the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

During a recent press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized the enduring bond between China and Africa, describing the two as "good brothers who stand together through thick and thin." This commitment reflects a long-standing partnership; Lin recalled the immense support China provided to three West African countries during the Ebola crisis of 2015, underscoring a consistent dedication to global health security.

To address the current crisis, the Chinese government has decided to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to the DRC. A key component of this support is the deployment of specialized medical expert teams tasked with providing critical services and on-the-ground assistance to contain the virus.

Beyond immediate relief, China is working to strengthen systemic defenses across the continent. By cooperating with the African Union Commission on epidemic prevention and control, China aims to jointly enhance the capacity of African countries to combat epidemics and prevent future outbreaks.

This latest initiative builds upon decades of medical aid presence in Africa. Lin Jian noted that China currently maintains 45 medical teams, consisting of more than 900 personnel, assisting 44 African countries. These professionals are currently working shoulder to shoulder with African populations to fight disease and improve healthcare outcomes.

Concluding the briefing, Lin Jian issued a call to the international community, urging more concrete actions to ensure that the DRC and other affected African nations can defeat the Ebola outbreak at an early date.
