On Monday, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. The Political Bureau assessed reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), as well as the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
The meeting acknowledged the accomplishments of these key state institutions over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of driving reforms and contributing to China's modernization, the leadership called on these institutions to prioritize efficiency and collaborative efforts.
Xi Jinping highlighted the need for the Secretariat to enhance political capability, enforce strict self-governance, and effectively carry out tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The leadership underscored the urgency of fully enforcing the Yellow River Protection Law to safeguard this critical region.
Key initiatives discussed include enhancing water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthening soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the Yellow River.
The meeting also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. It called for strengthening the synergy between the Yellow River's development and national strategies like the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.
Moreover, the leaders emphasized improving the holistic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism to foster sustainable economic growth in the region.
