Türkiye Ready to Support Syria’s New Administration with Military Training

Türkiye has expressed readiness to support Syria’s new administration following its recent toppling of President Bashar al-Assad. Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler emphasized the importance of giving the new government a chance to govern, especially in light of their constructive messages to the international community.

“In their first statement, the new administration that toppled Assad announced that it would respect all government institutions, the United Nations, and other international organizations,” Guler told reporters in Ankara in comments authorized for publication on Sunday. “We think that we need to see what the new administration will do and to give them a chance.”

Guler highlighted that Türkiye stands ready to provide military training and support if requested by the new Syrian government. “Türkiye is ready to provide the necessary support if the new administration requests it,” he added.

When asked about the potential for military cooperation, Guler noted that Ankara already has military cooperation and training agreements with many countries. “Our experience in defense and military training is extensive, and we are open to sharing our expertise with nations seeking to strengthen their defense capabilities.”

The Turkish government’s stance signals a potential shift in regional dynamics, as Türkiye positions itself as a supportive neighbor during Syria’s transitional period. Observers are closely watching how this cooperation could influence stability and security in the region.
