Xi Jinping Chairs CPC Leadership Meeting to Advance Yellow River Development

Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The high-level gathering focused on reviewing reports from key Party groups and discussing strategies to promote ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.

The meeting assessed reports from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau after hearing and discussing work reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee also presented its work report.

The Political Bureau commended the efforts of these leading groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. It emphasized the importance of prioritizing action, driving reforms, and contributing to high-quality development and the advancement of Chinese modernization in the coming year.

The Secretariat was urged to enhance political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and diligently execute tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to discussing the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin. Recognizing the Yellow River's crucial role in China's cultural heritage and economic development, the meeting called for comprehensive implementation of the Yellow River Protection Law.

The attendees stressed the need to systematically enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, bolster soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological management in the lower reaches of the river.

Efforts were also urged to ensure the safety of critical infrastructure such as dams and reservoirs. The meeting highlighted the importance of aligning the Yellow River's high-quality development with broader national strategies, including the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.

In addition, the meeting underscored the need to improve the protection of cultural heritage along the Yellow River and promote the integration of culture and tourism to boost local economies and preserve historical sites.
