Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing reports from key party and state institutions and discussing strategies for ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.
The Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after hearing and discussing work reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), along with the work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
The meeting fully recognized the achievements of these institutions over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. It emphasized the importance of prioritizing action, fostering reform, and contributing to high-quality development and Chinese modernization in the coming year.
\"In 2025, the leading Party members' groups of the five state institutions must make it a priority to get things done, pool strength to push forward reforms, and make new contributions to advancing high-quality development and Chinese modernization,\" the meeting noted.
The Secretariat was urged to enhance political ability, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
A significant focus of the meeting was the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin. The Yellow River, often called the \"Mother River\" of China, is crucial to the nation's ecological security and sustainable development.
The meeting called for promoting the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law. Efforts should be made to systematically enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the river.
Additionally, the meeting highlighted the necessity of ensuring the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure along the Yellow River. It emphasized strengthening the synergy between the river's high-quality development and national strategies such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.
The protection of cultural heritage and the promotion of cultural and tourism integration were also underscored as vital components of holistic and systematic development in the Yellow River Basin.
