President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a pivotal meeting of the Political Bureau on Monday. The assembly focused on reviewing significant reports and shaping strategies for China's future development.
The meeting examined a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau after discussing work reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee also presented its work report.
Key opinions on comprehensively promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin were reviewed. The Yellow River Basin holds strategic importance for China's ecological conservation and sustainable growth.
The meeting acknowledged the accomplishments of the leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of action, the meeting called on these groups to prioritize effective implementation, drive reforms, and contribute to advancing high-quality development and Chinese modernization in 2025.
The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capacity, uphold strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.
Highlighting the significance of the Yellow River Basin, the meeting called for comprehensive ecological protection and the enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law. Efforts should be made to systematically strengthen water source conservation in the upper reaches, improve soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.
The meeting also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. It advocated for aligning the Yellow River's high-quality development with strategies such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Additionally, it called for enhancing the protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development.
