Zhejiang’s Geospatial Training Hub Expands Global Reach with New Campus

In a significant step toward global geospatial empowerment, the Moganshan International Institute for Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation officially inaugurated its Laoling campus on May 23, 2026. Located in Deqing County, Zhejiang Province, this facility marks a new chapter in the region's commitment to high-tech education and international collaboration.

In less than two years of operation, the training hub has already established a formidable global footprint, equipping more than 3,000 participants with critical geospatial skills. Highlighting the institute's inclusive reach, approximately one-third of these trainees hail from Belt and Road partner countries, fostering a cross-border exchange of technical expertise and innovation.

The institute operates under the auspices of the UN-GGKIC, making it the first UN specialized agency headquartered at the county level within the Chinese mainland. This unique positioning allows for a localized yet global approach to geospatial education, talent development, and international exchange.

With a curriculum designed for global relevance and a market-oriented operational model, the institute is effectively bridging the gap between academic knowledge and industrial application. By focusing on the evolving needs of the geospatial sector, the Laoling campus is poised to become a central node for professionals, researchers, and policymakers seeking to harness spatial data for sustainable development and global progress.
