President Xi Jinping Chairs CPC Meeting to Propel High-Quality Development of Yellow River Basin

In a significant move towards advancing ecological protection and high-quality development, President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a crucial meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday.

The meeting reviewed comprehensive reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The discussions centered on past achievements and strategic plans for 2025, aiming to strengthen reforms and contribute to China's modernization efforts.

Focusing on High-Quality Development

The meeting underscored the imperative for the leading Party members' groups of the five state institutions to prioritize effective action, collaborative strength, and reform-driven progress in 2025. Emphasis was placed on advancing high-quality development and furthering the country's modernization goals.

The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was urged to enhance political capabilities, enforce strict self-governance, and diligently accomplish all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.

Ecological Protection of the Yellow River Basin

A significant highlight of the meeting was the focus on the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin. President Xi called for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law, stressing its importance in safeguarding one of China's most vital rivers.

Efforts were advocated to systematically enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the Yellow River. These initiatives aim to bolster the environmental sustainability of the region while promoting economic development.

Integrating Culture and Tourism

The meeting also emphasized the need to improve the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage within the Yellow River Basin. By promoting the integration of culture and tourism development, China seeks to preserve its rich history while fostering new economic opportunities through sustainable tourism.

Additionally, there was a call to ensure the safety of critical dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure, and to synergize the Yellow River's development with strategies for the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.
