Xi Jinping Leads CPC Meeting on High-Quality Development and Yellow River Protection

Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing crucial reports from various leading Party members' groups and emphasized the importance of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.

The Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after discussing work reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.

During the meeting, the achievements of these leading Party members' groups over the past year were fully recognized, and their work plans for 2025 were approved. The meeting highlighted the necessity for these groups to prioritize action, consolidate efforts to advance reforms, and contribute to high-quality development and the modernization of China.

The Secretariat was encouraged to enhance its political capability, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.

A key focus of the meeting was the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin. The Yellow River, often referred to as the "Mother River" of China, holds significant cultural and ecological importance. The meeting called for the promotion of the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law.

To safeguard the river's ecological health, efforts are to be intensified in several areas. This includes enhancing water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthening soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.

The meeting also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of critical dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure along the Yellow River. There is a call to synchronize the river's high-quality development with broader regional strategies, such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.

In addition to ecological efforts, the meeting emphasized improving the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage associated with the Yellow River. Promoting the integration of culture and tourism development was highlighted as a means to preserve and celebrate the rich history of the region.
