On Monday, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, presided over a pivotal meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee in Beijing. The gathering focused on reviewing significant reports and discussing strategic plans aimed at advancing China’s high-quality development and ecological preservation.
The meeting reviewed a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau after hearing and discussing work reports from the leading Party members’ groups of key state institutions. These included the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP), and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
Focus was also placed on opinions concerning the comprehensive promotion of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin, highlighting the region’s significance in China’s environmental and economic landscape.
The meeting acknowledged and commended the efforts of the leading Party members’ groups over the past year, approving their work plans for 2025. Emphasis was placed on prioritizing actionable outcomes, uniting efforts to push forward reforms, and contributing to the advancement of high-quality development and the realization of Chinese modernization.
The Secretariat was urged to enhance political capability, strengthen self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
Ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin were underscored as matters of national significance. The meeting called for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law and advocated for systematic measures to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, bolster soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection along with ecological governance in the lower reaches.
Additionally, efforts were urged to ensure the safety of critical infrastructure such as dams and reservoirs. There was a call to align the Yellow River’s high-quality development with broader strategies like the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Improving the systematic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development were also highlighted as key objectives.
This meeting reflects China’s ongoing commitment to sustainable development and ecological preservation, aiming to balance economic growth with environmental stewardship in one of the nation’s most vital regions.
