Resettlement is proceeding in an orderly manner after a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in Xizang Autonomous Region, southwest China, on Tuesday morning.
As of 6 a.m. Thursday, the quake has affected over 61,500 people. Authorities have established 224 resettlement sites, providing shelter for 47,500 relocated residents and ensuring their basic living needs are met, according to a press conference held on Thursday.
With temperatures dropping below minus 10 degrees Celsius, distributing winter relief items has been a key focus. To date, 12,730 tents have been set up, and 1,572 stoves installed to keep residents warm. Additionally, 3,020 electric blankets and 104 trucks of fuel have been allocated to the disaster-stricken area.
“The supply of disaster relief materials is generally adequate, and the living needs of the residents are basically ensured. Local residents now can have hot meals, clean drinking water, and timely medical treatment,” said Hao Tao, deputy head of the regional emergency management department.
To support the relief efforts, the Organization Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee has allocated funds totaling 50 million yuan (about $6.96 million) to the region. These funds, sourced from Party fees collected from CPC members, are aimed at benefiting those on the front line and those seriously affected by the disaster.
The department emphasized the importance of promptly distributing the funds to aid the relief work and assist those in need.
