WHO Warns Only 11 Gaza Hospitals Remain Partially Functional Amid Conflict

The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised alarm over the deteriorating healthcare situation in the Gaza Strip, reporting that only 11 of the region’s hospitals—less than a third—remain partially functional amid the ongoing conflict. On Tuesday, a senior WHO official pleaded for the protection of these critical medical facilities, emphasizing their importance for the civilian population.

“The healthcare system in Gaza is on the verge of collapse,” the official stated. “Medical facilities must be safeguarded to ensure that civilians have access to essential health services.”

Earlier, the WHO issued a statement expressing grave concern over the treatment of medical staff in Gaza. The organization accused Israeli forces of detaining and mistreating healthcare workers during an urgent mission inside the territory. The statement called for respect for international humanitarian laws that protect medical personnel and facilities in conflict zones.

The ongoing hostilities have severely impacted Gaza’s infrastructure, with hospitals facing shortages of medical supplies, electricity, and clean water. The WHO emphasized that the obstruction of healthcare services exacerbates the humanitarian crisis and puts countless lives at risk.

International bodies and human rights organizations have urged all parties involved to prioritize the safety and well-being of civilians and to allow unfettered access for humanitarian aid and medical assistance.
