China Achieves Aviation Milestone with First Homegrown eVTOL Engine

The AEE25 aviation electric engine was manufactured and delivered in Wuxi, located in the Jiangsu Province, on Thursday, June 4, 2026. This achievement represents a critical breakthrough in electric propulsion, bringing the region's capabilities to internationally advanced levels.

What sets the AEE25 apart is its exceptional efficiency. According to the Aero Engine Corporation of China (AECC), the engine has achieved a torque density of 40 newton-meters per kilogram. This marks a national record for China's publicly disclosed 200-kW-class aviation electric engines. For the industry, higher torque density translates to a lighter engine, which directly enables aircraft to carry a greater payload of passengers or cargo.

The AEE25 functions by converting electrical energy from onboard batteries into the necessary lift and thrust for rotor systems. By reducing reliance on imported propulsion technology, this milestone paves the way for more sustainable and scalable air taxi and logistics services within the region.
