China and Laos Vow to Deepen Legislative Exchanges to Boost Regional Ties

In a significant move to strengthen bilateral relations, China's top legislator Zhao Leji met with Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee and Lao President, in Beijing this Friday. The high-level meeting focused on a mutual commitment to deepening legislative exchanges and enhancing cooperation between the two nations.

During the discussions, Zhao, who serves as the chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, noted that China-Laos relations are currently at their historical peak, guided by the strategic vision of the top leadership in both countries. He emphasized that China is fully prepared to collaborate with Laos to implement the strategic consensus reached by their respective parties and governments.

A key highlight of the meeting was the shared goal of jointly building a high-standard, high-quality, and high-level China-Laos community with a shared future. Zhao, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, expressed the NPC's readiness to expand multi-level and multi-sector cooperation with the Lao National Assembly.

The proposed cooperation will specifically target the building of the rule of law and legislative development. By exchanging best practices and legal expertise, both nations aim to create robust legal safeguards that will facilitate and accelerate the modernization processes within their respective borders.

President Thongloun Sisoulith reaffirmed the resilience of the partnership, stating that the building of the Laos-China community with a shared future will continue to consolidate and grow, regardless of how the international landscape evolves. He expressed strong hope that the legislative bodies of both countries will continue to intensify their exchanges, viewing such cooperation as a vital contribution to the overall advancement of Laos-China relations.
