China’s Economy Shows Robust Growth in Latest National Economic Census

China has unveiled the results of its fifth national economic census, revealing significant growth and stability in the country’s economy over the past five years.

On Thursday, Kang Yi, head of the National Bureau of Statistics, announced at a press conference that China has experienced a remarkable increase in both the number of entities and employment in the secondary and tertiary industries.

As of the end of 2023, China boasted 33.27 million legal units engaged in these industries, marking a 52.7 percent increase from the end of 2018. This surge reflects the nation’s dynamic economic landscape and its ability to foster business growth.

The census also highlighted that over 428.98 million people were employed in the secondary and tertiary sectors, an 11.9 percent rise compared to figures from 2018. This uptick in employment underscores China’s commitment to expanding job opportunities and supporting its workforce.

Additionally, the number of self-employed units reached nearly 88 million, employing 179.56 million individuals. This growth in entrepreneurship indicates a vibrant market environment encouraging individual enterprise and innovation.

The positive trends showcased in the census results demonstrate China’s ongoing economic development and its resilience in maintaining steady progress. The substantial growth in key industries and employment reflects the nation’s strategic focus on economic diversification and sustainable growth.
