Tanzania's Taifa Stars have made history by reaching the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) knockout stage for the first time, ending a 45-year wait since their tournament debut. The milestone was secured on December 30, 2025, with a 1–1 draw against Tunisia in Rabat, Morocco, propelling them as one of the four best third-placed teams in Group C.
Despite missing automatic qualification, Tanzania's consistent scoring in all group-stage matches at the 2025 AFCON marked a dramatic turnaround. Feisal Salum’s second-half equalizer canceled out Ismael Gharbi’s penalty, ensuring their advancement over Angola on goals scored.
The team now faces a high-stakes clash against tournament hosts and favorites Morocco this Sunday in Rabat. Meanwhile, Group C winners Nigeria, who completed a flawless campaign, will meet Mozambique in Fes on Monday.
