In a significant effort to expand healthcare access in rural regions, the 28th Chinese medical team based in Kara, northern Togo, recently conducted a free medical clinic and donated essential medicines to the Saint Martin Health Center in Ketao.
Located approximately 433 kilometers north of the Togolese capital, Lome, Ketao serves as a vital hub for surrounding hamlets. The medical mission, operating under the strategic "100 Teams, 1,000 Villages" initiative, aimed to bring specialized care to those who often lack access to advanced medical facilities.
The mission brought together a diverse group of specialists in fields including traumatology, anesthesiology, general medicine, surgery, gynecology, stomatology, and acupuncture. Over 120 residents, including many senior citizens, benefited from comprehensive medical checks. The consultations specifically focused on high-impact areas such as ophthalmic examinations, oral and dental health, cardiac evaluations, and trauma-orthopedic development.
Xi Gang, head of the Chinese medical mission, emphasized the team's commitment to reaching the most underserved populations. "We will make every effort to provide the best services to vulnerable people, especially in rural and remote areas," Xi stated, noting that the team arrived fully equipped with medicines to meet the immediate needs of the patients.
The impact of the visit was evident in the high patient turnout. Marie-Bernard Kolah, head of the Saint Martin Health Center, expressed her gratitude for the timely arrival of the mission, noting that many residents had traveled from distant hamlets specifically to seek care from the visiting Chinese doctors.
This initiative highlights the ongoing cooperation in health and humanitarian aid, demonstrating how targeted medical missions can bridge the gap in healthcare delivery for remote communities in West Africa.
