China Boosts High-End Manufacturing with Massive Carbon Fiber Production Line

In a significant leap for industrial materials, the Chinese mainland has reached a new milestone in high-end manufacturing. China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec) announced the commencement of operations for its largest single-line capacity large-tow carbon fiber production line in Ordos City, located in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

The new facility boasts a designed single-line capacity exceeding 3,000 tonnes. According to Sinopec, the resulting products reach internationally advanced performance levels, representing a critical stride in the development of high-end carbon fiber within the Chinese mainland.

Carbon fiber is highly prized for its outstanding mechanical performance, making it indispensable in cutting-edge sectors. Its applications range from the rigorous demands of aerospace and high-end equipment to the rapidly growing new-energy vehicle (NEV) market.

A key technical highlight of the project is the focus on "large-tow" carbon fiber. Defined as fibers containing more than 48,000 filaments per tow, this technology allows for higher single-line output while simultaneously lowering production costs, making these advanced materials more accessible for wide-scale industrial use.

This development underscores a strategic commitment to upgrading material sciences, ensuring that key industries have the sustainable and high-performance resources needed to maintain a competitive edge in the global market.
