The 2024 “Understanding China” conference is currently underway in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. During the event, Liu Zongyi, director of the South Asian Research Center of the Shanghai Institute for International Studies, shared insights from his recent interactions with young scholars and diplomats from Bangladesh.
Liu revealed that these visitors expressed surprise at the stark difference between the portrayal of China in Western media and the reality they experienced during their visit. “They told me that the impression of the country given by Western media was completely different from the reality,” Liu said.
