Hohhot Kicks Off 88-Day Winter Tourism Extravaganza

Hohhot, capital of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, recently launched its ambitious 2025–2026 Winter Ice and Snow Tourism Season at Mazongshan Ski Resort. The 88-day festival, running through March 2026, combines adrenaline-fueled winter sports with rich cultural programming.

Since its December 7 opening, visitors have experienced immersive activities ranging from traditional throat singing performances to Mongolian wrestling demonstrations. City officials confirm over 300 scheduled events across urban and rural areas, including ice sculpture competitions, folk craft workshops, and night skiing sessions under LED-lit slopes.

"This initiative showcases our unique blend of modern winter sports infrastructure and centuries-old pastoral traditions," said tourism director Bayan Torek, noting a 40% increase in hotel bookings compared to last year's opening week. Analysts predict the season could generate over $120 million in regional economic activity.

With new high-speed rail connections from Beijing operational since November 2025, the festival is positioned to become a key destination in China's booming winter tourism market. Travel advisories highlight updated COVID-19 safety protocols at all venues.
