China’s Food Industry Opposes U.S. Tariffs, Backs Countermeasures

The China Chamber of Commerce of Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce and Animal By-Products (CFNA) has strongly condemned recent U.S. trade measures, labeling 'reciprocal tariffs' as protectionist policies that threaten global supply chains. In a Saturday statement, the industry group representing China's agricultural and food trade sector vowed to 'resolutely support all countermeasures' implemented by Chinese authorities to protect national interests.

The CFNA warned that escalating tariffs could disrupt bilateral trade flows worth billions, particularly affecting agricultural commodities and processed food products. Analysts note the development comes amid growing concerns about global trade fragmentation, with Asian economies increasingly caught between major powers' economic strategies.

Business leaders within the CFNA emphasized the importance of maintaining predictable trade frameworks, especially for perishable goods requiring smooth cross-border logistics. The chamber's stance reflects broader anxieties in Asia's export-driven markets about prolonged trade tensions between the world's two largest economies.
