China’s News Media Industry Enhances International Cooperation: Report

China’s news media industry has significantly expanded its international exchanges and cooperation efforts, according to a new report released on Tuesday by the All-China Journalists Association (ACJA). The report, titled “Development of China’s News Media (2024)”, highlights the active role of Chinese media organizations in promoting global collaboration among news professionals.

The ACJA has spearheaded numerous initiatives, including hosting the Belt and Road Journalists Forum, conducting joint interviews and training activities, and organizing events such as the China-CEEC (Central and Eastern European Countries) Journalists Roundtable and the China-Mongolia Media Forum. These efforts have facilitated the exchange of ideas and strengthened ties between Chinese journalists and their international counterparts.

In addition to welcoming dozens of foreign press delegations to China, the ACJA has also organized visits for Chinese press delegations to multiple foreign countries, fostering mutual understanding and collaboration in the global media landscape.

Major Chinese news organizations have also been actively involved in international cooperation. In August 2024, the People’s Daily hosted the Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road in Chengdu, where the Chengdu Initiative on Media Cooperation on Belt and Road was released, setting a framework for future collaborations.

Xinhua News Agency has been particularly proactive, signing news exchange and cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with 33 mainstream media outlets and government agencies in 25 countries and regions in 2023. This has resulted in a total of 173 contracts covering 124 countries and regions, significantly expanding Xinhua’s global network.

Notable international events organized by Xinhua include the World Media Summit, the BRICS Media Forum, the Plenary Meeting of the Belt and Road Studies Network, and the China-Central Asia News Agency Forum. These platforms have provided opportunities for dialogue and cooperation among media organizations worldwide.

China Media Group (CMG) has also contributed to international media exchanges by hosting the Journey Through Civilizations World Tour, “Chinese Modernization and the World” media events, and the CMG Forum in 2022 and 2023. These events have showcased China’s cultural heritage and modernization efforts to a global audience.

The report underscores the Chinese news media industry’s commitment to enhancing international communication and fostering stronger ties with global media counterparts. Through these collaborative efforts, China aims to promote mutual understanding and contribute to the development of the global media landscape.
