Vice President Han Zheng Affirms China’s Commitment to Greater Global Openness

Beijing, China — Vice President Han Zheng reaffirmed China’s commitment to expanding high-level openness and fostering global cooperation during his speech at the opening ceremony of the Global Trade and Investment Promotion Summit 2024 on Monday.

Addressing a diverse audience of international delegates, Han emphasized that in the face of global challenges, countries need to advance trade and investment liberalization and facilitation. “We should safeguard the resilience and stability of global supply and industrial chains to enlarge the economic pie for all,” he stated.

Han called on nations to seize the opportunities presented by the ongoing technological and industrial revolution. “By strengthening scientific and technological innovation and nurturing new growth drivers, we can collectively propel global economic development,” he remarked.

As the world’s second-largest economy, China has consistently contributed around 30 percent to global economic growth over the years. Han highlighted China’s willingness to share its development opportunities with the world, extending an invitation to global companies to continue investing in the country. “China welcomes enterprises from all over the world to join us in fostering a more open and inclusive global economy,” he said.

The summit, now in its third edition, was hosted by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. It brought together over 750 participants, including representatives from international organizations, foreign chambers of commerce, global trade promotion organizations, and enterprises. The gathering served as a platform for dialogue on enhancing global trade and investment amid a changing economic landscape.
