Cambodia, China Strengthen Strategic Ties in High-Level Talks

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet hosted Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defense Minister Dong Jun in Phnom Penh on Wednesday, marking a significant step in bilateral cooperation under the newly established '2+2' strategic dialogue mechanism. The talks focused on enhancing economic partnerships, regional security, and multilateral coordination.

Economic Priorities Take Center Stage

Hun Manet emphasized Cambodia's commitment to the one-China principle and outlined plans to expand collaboration in clean energy, agriculture, and infrastructure. 'We welcome Chinese enterprises to invest in Cambodia's development,' he stated, while pledging intensified efforts to combat cross-border online gambling and telecom fraud.

Security and Regional Stability

Defense Minister Dong Jun highlighted growing military cooperation, while Wang Yi stressed the need for solidarity amid global uncertainties. The Chinese foreign minister proposed accelerating the 'Industrial Development Corridor' and 'Fish and Rice Corridor' initiatives to boost Cambodia's self-reliant development capabilities.

Multilateral Coordination Advances

Both nations agreed to strengthen coordination in international forums, particularly at the United Nations. The Cambodian leader also sought China's support in mediating peace talks regarding ongoing border discussions with Thailand, to which Wang Yi responded positively, offering to facilitate dialogue platforms.
