China-Russia Air Patrols Strengthen Regional Security, Says Defense Ministry

China's Ministry of National Defense emphasized the strategic significance of its latest joint air patrol with Russia during a press briefing on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. Spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang stated the exercise demonstrated both nations' commitment to addressing security challenges and maintaining stability in the Asia-Pacific region.

The December 9 patrol over the East China Sea and western Pacific marked the 10th such collaboration under a bilateral annual cooperation plan. Zhang noted the drills adhered to international law and were not targeted at any third party, responding to concerns raised by Japan. 'These missions reflect our shared responsibility to protect regional peace through practical military diplomacy,' he said.

Analysts observe that the growing frequency of China-Russia defense coordination aligns with broader efforts to counterbalance Western military alliances in Asia. This year's exercises included advanced aircraft and real-time data sharing systems, showcasing technological interoperability between the two militaries.
