China’s Qi Ying Makes History with Men’s Trap Victory at ISSF World Cup Final

In a thrilling conclusion to the ISSF World Cup Final, Qi Ying of China secured a historic victory in the men’s trap event on Thursday, marking a significant milestone for Chinese shooting sports.

The 27-year-old sharpshooter was the sole Chinese participant in the trap discipline at this season-ending competition. Demonstrating remarkable precision, Qi hit all of his first 35 targets, setting a commanding lead and guaranteeing himself a spot on the podium with only three competitors remaining.

Maintaining his composure, Qi continued to dominate the field, ultimately achieving 47 hits to claim his maiden World Cup Final title. India’s Vivaan Kapoor earned the silver medal with 44 hits, while N Tolga Tuncer from Türkiye took bronze.

This triumph not only represents Qi’s personal best but also marks the first time a Chinese athlete has won the men’s trap at the World Cup Final. Earlier this summer, Qi made headlines in Paris by securing China’s first Olympic medal in this discipline.

“This is my maiden World Cup Final title, and it feels like it’s just the beginning for me,” Qi expressed after the event. “I hope to get better and better in future training and competitions. I had a relatively stable performance in the first half of this year, but still, I didn’t reach any final in major competitions. I believe my experience from the Paris Olympics and this World Cup Final can help me improve my training and mentality.”

China concluded the tournament atop the medal table with an impressive haul of five gold and three bronze medals. Italy followed in second place with one gold, three silvers, and one bronze, while Germany secured third with one gold and two silvers.
