Xi and Putin Call for Enhanced Strategic Coordination to Drive Mutual Development

In a high-level meeting at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the need for China and Russia to pursue comprehensive strategic coordination of even higher quality to drive the development and revitalization of both nations.

The discussions took place during a state visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin, occurring at a significant temporal juncture. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation.

President Xi highlighted that the strength of the bilateral relationship is built upon a foundation of deepening political mutual trust and unyielding tenacity. He noted that despite a fluid and turbulent international situation—characterized by a resurgence of unilateralism and hegemonism—the global aspiration for peace, development, and cooperation remains the prevailing trend.

As permanent members of the UN Security Council and influential global actors, the two leaders agreed on the importance of taking a long-term strategic perspective. Their shared goal is to work toward a global governance system that is more just and reasonable, ensuring stability and prosperity on a worldwide scale.

The partnership has already seen significant advancements across various sectors, including trade, the economy, investment, energy, science, and technology. President Xi added that people-to-people and sub-national exchanges have further strengthened the bonds between the two populations, pushing the relationship into a new stage of greater achievements and faster development.

Concluding the remarks, President Xi stressed that promoting the sound, steady, and high-quality development of the China-Russia relationship is a strategic choice rooted in the fundamental interests of both countries and aligned with current global trends. He called for the full implementation of common understandings to seize historic opportunities for continued friendship and cooperation.
