In a high-level diplomatic encounter at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for China and Russia to elevate their comprehensive strategic coordination to drive the development and revitalization of both nations.
The meeting comes at a pivotal moment, as 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation. President Xi emphasized that the current strength of the bilateral relationship is the result of deepening political mutual trust and an unwavering commitment to international justice and fairness.
Addressing the complexities of the current international climate, President Xi noted that while the global situation remains fluid and turbulent—with a resurgence of unilateralism and hegemonism—the desire for peace, development, and cooperation continues to be the prevailing trend among people worldwide.
As permanent members of the UN Security Council, both nations aim to take a long-term strategic perspective. The goal is not only to foster internal growth but also to work toward a global governance system that is more just and reasonable.
The partnership has seen significant strides in several key sectors, including trade, economy, investment, energy, science, and technology. Additionally, people-to-people and sub-national exchanges have strengthened the bonds between the two populations.
President Xi stressed that the China-Russia relationship has entered a new stage characterized by faster development and greater achievements. He urged both sides to fully implement common understandings and seize historic opportunities to further promote friendship and cooperation.
