Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin Push for Enhanced China-Russia Strategic Coordination

Strengthening Ties in a Turbulent Era

In a high-level meeting at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the necessity of comprehensive strategic coordination between China and Russia to catalyze development and revitalization for both nations.

The talks, held with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his state visit to China, come at a pivotal moment. This year, 2026, marks the 30th anniversary of the China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation.

President Xi highlighted that the current state of bilateral relations is the result of persistent efforts to deepen political mutual trust and expand cooperation. He noted that both countries have remained steadfast in defending international justice and fairness, working toward the vision of a community with a shared future for humanity.

Addressing the current global landscape, President Xi described the international situation as "fluid and turbulent," warning against the resurgence of unilateralism and hegemonism. Despite these challenges, he asserted that peace, development, and cooperation remain the primary aspirations of people worldwide and the prevailing trend of the times.

As permanent members of the UN Security Council and influential global powers, President Xi urged both nations to maintain a strategic, long-term perspective. By elevating the quality of their strategic coordination, China and Russia aim to not only foster domestic growth but also contribute to a more just and reasonable global governance system.
