China Applauds Seychelles for Supporting One-China Principle and Flight Restrictions

In a recent high-level meeting in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed strong appreciation for the Seychelles' commitment to the one-China principle and its recent actions regarding the travel of separatist figures.

During talks with Barry Faure, Seychelles' minister of foreign affairs and diaspora, Wang Yi lauded the decision by Seychelles and other friendly nations to lawfully and openly revoke outbound flight permits for Lai Ching-te, a leading figure of the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces. The Chinese Foreign Minister noted that these actions reflect a firm adherence to international justice and historical correctness.

The meeting took place amidst a significant milestone, as 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Seychelles. Over the past five decades, both nations have maintained mutual support on core interests and collaborated closely on national and economic development.

Wang Yi emphasized that the one-China principle is a long-standing international consensus and underscored that the authority of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 remains beyond question. He expressed confidence that the Taiwan region will eventually return to the embrace of the motherland, as more countries align with this historical reality.

Beyond diplomatic alignment, the two nations are looking toward a future of enhanced cooperation. Wang stated that China is ready to partner with Seychelles to advance the digital, marine, island, and green economies, aiming to elevate the strategic partnership to a new height.
