China's top legislator Zhao Leji met with Mozambican President Daniel Francisco Chapo in Beijing on Tuesday, reaffirming commitments to deepen bilateral cooperation and implement key outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit.
Zhao, chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, emphasized China's willingness to expand collaboration with Mozambique across political, economic, and cultural spheres. 'Under the guidance of our leaders' consensus, we aim to enhance mutual trust and fully realize the potential of our partnership,' Zhao stated during the meeting.
The discussions highlighted plans to strengthen legislative exchanges, share governance experiences in rural revitalization and rule of law, and boost trade ties. President Chapo reiterated Mozambique's adherence to the one-China principle and support for China's global development initiatives, pledging to advance practical cooperation between the two nations.
This meeting follows recent efforts to accelerate joint infrastructure projects in Mozambique, including port modernization and agricultural development programs backed by Chinese investment. Analysts suggest the talks signal growing momentum in China-Africa partnerships as 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of FOCAC's establishment.
