China's domestically developed C919 passenger aircraft marked a milestone on May 25 as it completed its inaugural commercial flight between Shanghai and Xiamen. Flight MU5247, carrying 148 passengers, arrived at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport at 9:19 a.m. amid a ceremonial water salute, symbolizing aviation tradition and progress in the country's aerospace sector.
The narrow-body jet will now operate daily round-trip flights on the route, departing Shanghai Hongqiao at 7:50 a.m. and returning from Xiamen at 10:55 a.m. The schedule enables same-day business travel, with flight durations under three hours each way.
Analysts highlight the route's strategic importance, connecting two of the Chinese mainland's key economic hubs. The C919's deployment aligns with efforts to optimize air travel efficiency and reduce reliance on foreign-made aircraft for domestic routes.
