China Launches World’s First 5G-A Smart Mining Fleet in Inner Mongolia

In a groundbreaking leap for industrial automation, a fleet of 100 unmanned electric trucks has begun operation at the Yimin Open-Pit Coal Mine in Inner Mongolia, powered by the world's first 5G-Advanced (5G-A) network deployed in open-pit mining. This innovation eliminates human operators from hazardous environments while achieving 120% higher efficiency than traditional methods.

The 5G-A network enables real-time coordination between vehicles and cloud systems, with Huawei Cloud solutions processing crowdsourced data to optimize routes. Each 90-tonne capacity truck operates seamlessly in temperatures as low as -40°C, overcoming challenges like blizzards and dust storms through AI-enhanced perception systems.

Huawei's Zhang Ping'an emphasized this project demonstrates China's leadership in integrating 5G, AI, and green energy technologies. Future plans aim to expand the fleet to 300 vehicles for round-the-clock operations, setting new global benchmarks for mine safety and productivity.

The development highlights Asia's growing role in Industry 4.0 solutions, combining environmental sustainability with technological prowess. As 5G-A bridges current capabilities with future 6G networks, its application in heavy industries signals transformative potential for global supply chains and infrastructure development.
