China Urges Global Action for Palestinian Two-State Solution

China has called for urgent international mobilization to advance a two-State solution for Palestine, emphasizing its necessity to resolve the decades-long crisis. Speaking at a UN event marking the 77th anniversary of the Nakba, China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Geng Shuang described the Palestinian struggle as a continued 'historical injustice' requiring immediate redress.

The Nakba's Legacy and Persistent Challenges

Geng highlighted that over 53,000 Palestinian lives have been lost in the 19-month Gaza conflict, with two million facing severe humanitarian shortages due to Israel's intensified blockade. He criticized Israeli settlement expansions in the West Bank and rising settler violence, which he stated 'erode the foundation for peace.'

A Path Forward

'The question of Palestine remains central to Middle East stability,' Geng asserted, urging Israel to comply with UN resolutions and international law. He called on 'a major power with influence' — an apparent reference to the U.S. — to adopt an 'impartial role' in de-escalating tensions.

China's Diplomatic Push

Reiterating Beijing's stance, Geng backed Palestinian statehood based on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital and full UN membership. He endorsed upcoming peace initiatives, including a June conference co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia, as 'new impetus' for the two-State framework. China pledged continued collaboration with global partners to ensure 'the Nakba remains confined to history.'
