China-CELAC Forum Marks Decade of Partnership, Eyes Shared Future

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi underscored the deepening ties between China and Latin American and Caribbean nations in a signed article published Tuesday in People’s Daily, coinciding with the fourth ministerial meeting of the China-CELAC Forum in Beijing.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted the forum’s 10th anniversary as a milestone in fostering cooperation. He emphasized the importance of collective efforts to achieve development and rejuvenation, framing the China-CELAC partnership as a cornerstone for building a “community with a shared future.”

The forum, launched officially in 2014, has become a premier platform for economic collaboration, infrastructure projects, and cultural exchanges. Analysts note its role in aligning China’s Belt and Road Initiative with regional development priorities across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Wang’s remarks come as global attention turns to emerging markets in the region, with business leaders and investors eyeing opportunities in renewable energy, technology, and sustainable agriculture. Academics have praised the forum’s emphasis on multilateralism, particularly amid ongoing geopolitical shifts.

This year’s ministerial meeting is expected to yield new agreements on trade facilitation and climate resilience, further cementing cross-continental ties.
