China and Peru Strengthen Ties in Beijing Meeting

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, held strategic talks with Peruvian Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer in Beijing on Monday, signaling deeper collaboration between the two nations. The meeting focused on enhancing economic partnerships, advancing green energy initiatives, and expanding cultural exchanges amid growing Asia-Latin America engagement.

Wang emphasized China's commitment to shared development goals under the Belt and Road framework, while Schialer highlighted Peru's interest in technological cooperation and sustainable infrastructure projects. Analysts note the dialogue aligns with recent efforts to diversify trade networks and address global supply chain challenges.

The ministers reaffirmed their 53-year diplomatic relationship, established when Peru became one of the first Latin American countries to recognize the People's Republic of China in 1971. Recent bilateral trade reached $23 billion annually, with China maintaining its position as Peru's largest trading partner.
