China Urges Expanded Cooperation with U.S. Amid Trade Talks

Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng emphasized mutual collaboration and pragmatic solutions during high-level economic talks with U.S. counterparts this weekend, urging both nations to 'extend the list of cooperation' amid ongoing trade complexities.

The discussions between He, China's lead representative for economic and trade affairs, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer focused on implementing consensus reached during January's bilateral leadership meeting. Both sides described the dialogue as 'candid, constructive, and productive,' culminating in agreements to establish a formal economic consultation mechanism.

'China-U.S. relations are mutually beneficial by nature,' He stated, acknowledging inevitable 'differences and frictions' between nations with distinct economic systems. He stressed adherence to principles of mutual respect and win-win cooperation while firmly opposing trade wars: 'There are no victors in such conflicts. China prefers dialogue but will respond decisively if its rights are infringed.'

The talks highlighted shared interests in stabilizing global supply chains and fostering sustainable economic growth. Both parties agreed to expand collaboration in emerging sectors while addressing existing disputes through the newly formed communication framework.
