China, Gabon Strengthen Strategic Partnership at Presidential Inauguration

In a significant diplomatic engagement, China and Gabon reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties during Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema’s inauguration ceremony in Libreville. Chinese President Xi Jinping’s special envoy Mu Hong, also vice chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, attended the May 3 event and conveyed Xi’s warm greetings to the newly inaugurated leader.

During their May 4 meeting, Mu emphasized China’s dedication to elevating the “comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership” with Gabon. “We aim to draw strength from our traditional friendship and advance mutual trust through solidarity,” Mu stated, pledging support for collaborative infrastructure development, trade, and cultural exchanges.

President Nguema expressed gratitude for China’s diplomatic gesture, emphasizing Gabon’s resolve to uphold the one-China principle. “We value our partnership with China and will expand practical cooperation across energy, technology, and education sectors,” he said, highlighting shared goals for sustainable development.

The two nations plan to enhance collaboration under frameworks like the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), with observers noting the potential for increased Chinese investments in Gabon’s natural resource management and green energy initiatives.
