Ambassador Xie Feng opened the May 3 event with a speech titled ‘A Certain China in an Uncertain World,’ advocating for international cooperation amid geopolitical tensions. ‘Openness brings progress; isolation breeds stagnation,’ he stated, referencing Gansu’s evolution from a poverty-stricken region to a hub of digital innovation and revived Silk Road prominence.
Centered on Gansu’s 1,600-kilometer stretch of the ancient Silk Road, exhibits like the ‘Digital Dunhuang’ immersive display bridged historical Buddhist artistry with cutting-edge technology. Traditional workshops on calligraphy and medicine drew crowds alongside discussions on trade policy, where Xie criticized tariff escalations as ‘disruptive to global growth.’
Maryland officials, World Bank representatives, and embassy delegates mingled with attendees, underscoring the event’s diplomatic significance. Xie reiterated China’s commitment to ‘high-quality development’ and mutual respect in international relations, pledging that ‘China’s door will only open wider.’
