China’s Tianhe Space Module Marks 4th Year in Orbit with Milestones

Four years after its historic launch, the Tianhe core module of the China Space Station continues to shine as a symbol of scientific progress and human ingenuity. Since entering orbit on April 29, 2021, this engineering marvel has enabled groundbreaking achievements, from hosting astronauts to pioneering cosmic research that benefits global knowledge.

As the 'command center' of the space station, Tianhe integrates life support systems, orbital control, and mission management. Its pivotal role allowed the seamless addition of the Wentian and Mengtian lab modules, forming the station’s iconic T-shape. Over nine Shenzhou crewed missions, the module has supported 25 astronauts, including historic spacewalks and robotic arm operations.

Beyond engineering feats, Tianhe has become a platform for discovery. Over 100 experiments in fields like microgravity biology and material science have yielded insights with potential applications in medicine and sustainable technology. The recent Shenzhou-20 mission underscores China’s commitment to transparent international collaboration, with researchers worldwide invited to propose experiments.

Experts highlight Tianhe’s role in advancing humanity’s cosmic ambitions. 'This module isn’t just Chinese infrastructure—it’s a shared resource,' noted Dr. Li Wei, an astrophysicist at Beijing University. 'Its stable operations enable long-term studies impossible on Earth, benefiting all nations.'

As China plans expanded research in lunar exploration and deep-space communication, Tianhe’s legacy as a bridge between Earth and the stars grows ever more significant.
