Deadly U.S. Airstrikes Escalate Tensions in Yemen’s Sanaa

At least eight people were killed and dozens injured late Sunday in a series of U.S. airstrikes targeting Yemen's Houthi-held capital Sanaa, according to Houthi-run health authorities. Rescue teams are combing through rubble in the Bani Al-Harith district after three residential buildings were struck, with fears the toll could rise.

The attacks follow nearly 20 U.S. strikes reported across northern Yemen on Sunday by Houthi-affiliated media, marking the latest escalation since Washington resumed military operations in the region on March 15. The U.S. Central Command asserts the strikes aim to curb Houthi threats to Red Sea shipping lanes and Israeli interests.

Sunday's violence comes just 24 hours after U.S. raids killed two people in Sanaa. Analysts warn the cycle of retaliation risks destabilizing regional security and maritime trade routes vital to Asian markets. Humanitarian groups urge restraint as civilian casualties mount.
