Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reiterated Beijing’s unwavering support for Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts during a Sunday phone call with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, as regional tensions rise following attacks in the Kashmir region.
Dar briefed Wang on escalating Pakistan-India relations linked to recent terrorist incidents in Kashmir, stressing Islamabad’s “steadfast commitment to combating terrorism” and opposition to actions that might inflame tensions. The Pakistani official emphasized plans to address the situation “in a mature manner” while maintaining communication with Beijing and global stakeholders.
Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, affirmed that counterterrorism is a “shared responsibility for all nations,” praising Pakistan’s resolve. He underscored the nations’ “iron-clad friendship” and China’s understanding of Pakistan’s “legitimate security concerns,” vowing support for its sovereignty.
The Chinese foreign minister called for a “fair and timely investigation” into the attacks and urged restraint between Pakistan and India. “Conflicts do not serve either side’s fundamental interests and jeopardize regional stability,” Wang stated, advocating dialogue to de-escalate tensions.
The exchange highlights China’s role as a stabilizing force in South Asia, leveraging its diplomatic ties to mediate complex security challenges.
