China Clarifies No Tariff Talks with U.S., Urges Resolution

The Chinese Embassy in the U.S. firmly denied Friday that Beijing and Washington are engaged in discussions regarding tariffs, countering recent claims by American officials. A spokesperson stated that no negotiations have taken place and emphasized that resolving trade tensions requires accountability from the party that initiated them.

"As far as I know, there have been no consultations or negotiations between China and the U.S. on tariffs, nor has any agreement been reached," the spokesperson said, adding that the U.S. unilaterally started the tariff conflict. The embassy urged Washington to take responsibility, stating: "Whoever caused the knot should be the one to untie it."

Trade analysts suggest this response underscores China’s stance that unilateral U.S. actions must be addressed before meaningful dialogue can resume. The remarks come amid escalating scrutiny of global supply chain risks and inflation pressures tied to prolonged trade disputes.
