More than 920 Chinese nationals linked to cross-border telecom fraud have been repatriated from Myanmar to the Chinese mainland, according to a statement from China’s Ministry of Public Security (MPS) on Wednesday. The suspects were transferred through the Daluo port in Yunnan Province following coordinated operations with Myanmar authorities.
This milestone builds on a joint initiative launched in November 2023, which dismantled major fraud hubs along the China-Myanmar border. Despite initial successes, suspects reportedly relocated deeper into Myanmar to evade detection, prompting intensified intelligence-sharing between the two nations.
The MPS emphasized that China will maintain pressure on cross-border fraud networks and advised individuals involved in such activities to surrender promptly for leniency. The ministry also credited Myanmar’s recent operations—conducted since March 24—for disrupting new fraud dens targeting Chinese citizens.
These efforts underscore the growing collaboration between Asian nations to combat transnational cybercrime, a priority for regional stability and economic security.
