A U.S. airstrike targeting a residential area in Yemen’s Houthi-held capital Sanaa has killed at least one person and injured 15 others, including three children and two women, according to Houthi-run al-Masirah TV. The strike occurred late Sunday in the Asr neighborhood, a western suburb of Sanaa, with rescue teams still searching for survivors under rubble described by residents as “very violent.”
The attack follows earlier U.S. strikes in northern Yemen’s Saada province and the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah. Hours before the Sanaa strike, Houthi forces claimed to have targeted the USS Harry S. Truman and Israel’s Ben Gurion airport—actions the Israeli military says it intercepted.
This escalation marks the latest chapter in a U.S. air campaign launched in mid-March against Houthi-controlled territories. The group, which governs much of northern Yemen, vows to continue strikes on Israeli-linked targets in solidarity with Gaza and to counter perceived U.S. aggression. The U.S. military has not yet commented on the latest incidents.
The conflict, rooted in Yemen’s civil war since 2014, threatens regional stability and global shipping lanes in the Red Sea, a critical route for international trade. Analysts warn the violence could further strain efforts to mediate peace while raising risks for nearby economies.
