BYD Unveils 1 MW Fast-Charging Battery With 2 km/s Speed

Chinese automaker BYD made headlines on Monday with the launch of its innovative 1 MW fast-charging battery. This breakthrough technology can deliver a top charging speed of 2 kilometers per second, providing a remarkable 407-kilometer driving range after only five minutes of charging.

According to BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu, the battery operates with a maximum charging power of 1 megawatt, a charging voltage of 1 kilovolt, and a charging current of 1,000 amperes, achieving a peak charging rate of 10 C. Chairman Wang emphasized that reaching charging times comparable to traditional refueling—what he calls "oil-electric parity"—could resolve many concerns regarding electric vehicle charging.

In line with this innovative push, BYD also announced its plans to construct over 4,000 fast-charging stations across the Chinese mainland. This extensive network is expected to ease range anxiety among drivers and pave the way for significant advancements in the electric vehicle sector.

Industry experts and global market analysts view this development as a major stride in the evolution of electric mobility. By reducing charging times dramatically, BYD's new battery technology not only supports a more convenient driving experience but also encourages further investment in sustainable energy solutions across Asia and beyond.
