Chinese Mainland Reaffirms Stance on Taiwan, Warns Against Separatism

Cross-Strait Tensions Highlight Beijing's Commitment to Reunification

The Chinese mainland has issued a firm warning to what it describes as 'Taiwan independence' forces, stating it will take resolute countermeasures against any provocations threatening national sovereignty. The remarks came during a Wednesday press conference where Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Chen Binhua addressed concerns about evolving cross-strait policies.

Chen emphasized that peaceful reunification remains China's fundamental policy, reaffirming the 'one country, two systems' framework as the 'best path forward' for both sides of the Taiwan Strait. However, he noted increasing complexities in cross-strait relations, attributing tensions to 'collusion between the Democratic Progressive Party authorities and external forces seeking to undermine stability.'

'We possess full confidence and capability to defend against separatist attempts,' Chen stated, underscoring Beijing's dual approach of maintaining dialogue channels while preparing for escalated scenarios. Analysts suggest the comments reflect growing mainland concerns about international engagement with Taiwan region officials.

The statement follows scrutiny of China's 2025 government work report, which prioritized 'advancing reunification' without explicitly mentioning 'peaceful' methods. Chen clarified this omission does not indicate policy shifts but rather serves as a reminder that Beijing views unification as an 'inevitable historical process.'
