China’s PLA Vows to Achieve 2027 Centenary Goals Amid Military Modernization Drive

China’s military leadership has reaffirmed its commitment to achieving modernization milestones by 2027, the centenary year of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Spokesperson Wu Qian declared this objective a “strategic imperative” during the annual national legislative session, emphasizing accelerated progress toward building “world-class armed forces.”

Wu, representing the PLA and People’s Armed Police Force delegation, stated that military deputies are prioritizing intensified combat readiness training and advanced warfare capabilities. “We must dedicate our efforts to ensuring strong performance and meeting deadlines,” he said, highlighting plans to upgrade new-domain forces and optimize preparedness for high-tech, intelligent conflicts.

The announcement underscores China's broader national strategy to align defense capabilities with its modernization goals. Analysts observe that these efforts may reshape regional security dynamics, particularly as the PLA focuses on emerging technologies like AI and cyber warfare.

Wu’s remarks signal continuity in China’s defense policy, with implications for Asia’s evolving security landscape and global strategic partnerships.
