Yinchuan’s Wine & Tie-Dye Craft Marks Women’s Day

In a vibrant celebration of International Women’s Day, artisans in Yinchuan ”’— capital of northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region ”’— fused traditional tie-dye artistry with the region’s flourishing wine culture. Nearly 50 women from local wineries participated in a workshop hosted by an intangible cultural heritage center, exploring how centuries-old dyeing techniques intersect with modern viticulture.

The event emphasized cultural preservation through interactive sessions led by master craftsmen. Attendees experimented with natural pigments derived from grapes and other organic materials, creating intricate patterns symbolizing themes of empowerment and collaboration. “This workshop bridges our heritage with today’s creative industries,” said organizer Li Mei, highlighting Ningxia’s reputation as a global wine hub.

Such initiatives align with broader efforts to promote regional tourism and sustainable craftsmanship. Yinchuan, often dubbed ‘China’s Bordeaux,’ leverages its cultural assets to drive economic innovation, offering opportunities for local women to lead in both agriculture and artisanal sectors.
